ADD Another Goal

Beat those obstacles

At the start of any fitness journey, it's a lot to handle. We are constantly fighting against the unhealthy habits we've created in the past. Between striving for our goals and making time for ourselves, our life can become difficult and frustrating. Focusing on a numerical goal we want to reach can make it even harder and less rewarding when we find ourselves disappointed when we don't get there soon enough.  


This is why I love to challenge my clients to register themselves to one of these obstacles races. It's a fun way to create a fitness journey and become stronger without worrying about the scale so much. Most of the time, we will run as a team because regardless of where you are in your fitness journey, everyone needs a little support. Don't get me wrong, when clients first hear about obstacle races, their first instinct is to say "I CAN'T". I am here to tell you not only that "You CAN, but that you WILL". You'd be surprised what your body can do with the proper mindset. However, I always recommend signing up at least 6 months in advance to start training properly.   


You still don't believe me? Here's a quick example of the reason I like to incorporate these obstacle races. In our team picture, there is a pretty remarkable individual. Melissa, the second person (from right to left) is her name. When she came to me, she never ran or did anything remotely close to an obstacle race. In fact, she had recently come out of bed rest after having back surgery a year prior. She immediately thought I was nuts when I offered her to do a race with me. After 6 months of training, 5 times a week, she was able to complete one of the toughest obstacles races; the Spartan race.  This is just one of the many motivating stories I have experienced throughout my years of training.


I love these races because they not only challenge you physically but mentally. Remember, you are stronger than you know and the next time you doubt yourself, ask yourself, "Is this my body telling me I can't or my mind?" You'll be surprised at what you can accomplish once you stop letting yourself get in the way of your goals.   So, don't WAIT to be ready! Plan NOW and let's beat those obstacles!
